Special Educational Needs (SEN)
Our school community prides itself on having an inclusive nature that is fully embedded. In 2024, we became an Inclusion Quality Mark ‘Flagship School'. The whole school community thrives on and values the diverse nature of the school population. All children at some time in their education might need additional support in a particular area of their learning or within their social and emotional development.
Whatever the need, we will ensure that the appropriate interventions are provided through early identification, a graduated response, and by working closely with parents or carers at all stages of support.
These interventions may take the form of additional support in the classroom, a more structured programme such as ‘Nessy’ for reading and spelling needs, or Nurture support to help develop social and emotional skills. Our Nurture Assistants are trained by Wokingham Educational Psychologists, to deliver sessions to small groups on skills such as self-esteem and working together. Where we require more advice, and in consultation with parents, some children may also receive support from external professionals linked to the Berkshire Health Trust – CYPIT, the Educational Psychology Service, Learning Support Service or Foundry College.
Lambs Lane is also a Resource-based School for pupils with Complex Needs, including those with a physical disability. The school has been adapted to allow easy access to all areas of the school environment and we also house a Physiotherapy and Sensory Room. All pupils are integrated into a mainstream class with their peers, in line with our inclusion ethos, but personalised timetables are implemented according to individual need.
We understand that very able children also may have additional needs and we ensure tasks are planned to challenge these children through greater depth and enrichment activities. We recognise that children may be gifted or talented in one or more areas of the whole curriculum, and opportunities are provided to support their individual needs, either academic, creative or sporting.
